Tis' the holiday season -- and the season of holiday parties. Getting into the holiday spirit with your peers is a great way to skip the awkward small talk and celebrate the changing seasons – plus who doesn’t like free food?
Here are 5 holiday party themes to help you get outside the ho-hum holiday box.
Ugly Sweater
<img alt="" src="https://www.dickeys.com/assets/pictures/9.jpg"/>You know those horrid Christmas sweaters, featuring a felt Santa with a fluffy wool beard and reindeer with silver stitching around their antlers? Well, dig out those beastly sweaters, because this year’s Holiday party theme is “embrace the ugliness.”
All employees are instructed to find a Holiday sweater to wear to the party. Anyone who doesn’t show up with a sweater will be given one of your spare sweaters, and a pair of reindeer ears or some other embarrassing prop for good measure. Decorate the room with bright and fun decorations and offer a reward for the most impressive sweater.

Santa’s Workshop

Set up your party room to look like Santa’s workshop - a corner for Santa visits, piles of presents ready to stack on the sleigh, and different holiday craft-stations for busy elves to make some magic.
Make sure to invite Santa or Nathan from IT dressed as Santa – and everyone can take turns having their picture taken with the big guy. Pictures will no doubt get sillier and sillier. It can also be fun to supply a few props to make photos even more merry and bright.

With buffet lines filled with bite-sized morsels of calorie-laden treats, they are the easiest way to make you join a gym come January. Like the cookie swap, invite your guests to bring their favorite appetizer to share. If, however, the impending sodium counts really have you shaking in your winter boots, ask that people bring healthy options as well.

So, as the old adage goes, "If you can't beat 'em, join 'em." &nbsp;If nothing else, it'll be incredibly amusing to watch.

Companies small and large are going with this theme idea. For example, Delta Airlines threw a party where they took under-privileged children who’d never been on a plane before to a hangar at JFK airport where they all celebrated the season, aviation-style.
You may not be Delta Airlines, but you can still throw a great charity-themed party. Pick a charity your employees would love to support and either charge for party entrance or run an auction during the festivities. Consider allowing your employees to give their holiday bonuses partially or fully to the charity of their choice.
The company holiday party is a great chance to build team spirit as well as celebrate a year well-done.&nbsp; Deck the halls with laughter, fun, great food and the spirit of the season.&nbsp; Oh and a few ugly sweaters helps too!

Five Holiday Office Party Themes

Did you catch Dickey’s Barbecue on TNT’s&nbsp;<a href="https://www.tntdrama.com/shows/on-the-menu.html">‘On The Menu’</a>&nbsp;on Friday? The food competition was fierce and started with four amateur cooks battling it out to create Dickey’s Pulled Pork Barbecue Sandwiches.&nbsp; They had to get them just right with 4 oz. of pulled pork on a toasted bun topped with two slices of onion and two pickles. Following the first elimination round, the three remaining contestants created meals for Dickey’s guests which included a stuffed chicken breast, a turnip and sausage soup and a jambalaya turkey sandwich. Following guests critiques, the two remaining chefs modified their items for Mr. Dickey to taste test.
Although it was difficult decision, the judges ruled and you’ll want to stampede into your closest Dickey’s Barbecue Pit because our new item, Stampede Stew is now on the menu! The limited time menu item features a delicious Southern combination of fresh turnip greens mixed with a hearty vegetable broth, great northern beans and piled high with Dickey’s signature Polish sausage. The perfect cold weather dish is served steaming hot along with a buttery roll. You can order the new menu item as a tasty entrée or a home style side item with some of our delicious barbecue.&nbsp;

Check Out What’s New ‘On The Menu’

Dickey’s Barbecue TV premiere is just two days away! We are excited to be the season finale of TNT’s <a href="http://www.tntdrama.com/shows/on-the-menu.html?sr=onthemenu">On The Menu</a>! The new cooking competition show has brought some pretty awesome items to guests the very next day including Denny’s Apple Danish French Toast, Cabo Wabo’s Shrimp Enchilada Stack or Emeril’s Crab Lasagna – Yum!&nbsp; We can’t wait for you to try Dickey’s new item following our episode on Saturday, December 6.
Mr. Dickey, our Lead Chef and our PR Director flew out to LA to film the show with hosts, Ty Pennington &amp; Chef Emeril Lagasse. For the segment, we even got to turn the set into a Dickey’s Barbecue Pit. Employees from Dickey’s Barbecue corporate offices joined local franchise owners in serving our guests this past holiday weekend.&nbsp; Staff fanned out in to their local communities to lend a hand, meet guests and spread holiday cheer.&nbsp; &nbsp;We hope you had a safe and happy holiday with your families and that you know just how thankful we are for our loyal barbecue fans.

All Hands on Deck for the Holidays

Throughout the year, the USDA’s Meat and Poultry Hotline answers questions about food safety from the public.&nbsp; They’re open Thanksgiving Day from 8:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. ET, and it is their busiest day of year.&nbsp; Properly cooking a turkey can make even the most confident chef just a little nervous.&nbsp; The millions of first-time cooks attempting the turkey trot to the Thanksgiving table are probably a little tense too.
Common calls to the Hotline on Thanksgiving Day include “How long should I cook my turkey?” or “How many days will my macaroni and cheese last?”’. &nbsp;Every year, the Hotline gets a few extraordinary calls that I just have to write down.&nbsp; Here are a few turkey fails they’ve heard from callers over the years.&nbsp;
1.&nbsp; Lifeguard Not on Duty
Never leave your turkey by the pool unsupervised.&nbsp; A couple found a wild turkey, drowned from the night before, in their swimming pool.&nbsp; The caller asked if it could be served to their guests for dinner. Because this bird was not dressed properly immediately upon its death, it was not safe to serve.
2.&nbsp; Tumble Dry Low
Make sure you have the tools before you commit.&nbsp; One clever caller did not have a large enough container to brine his large turkey.&nbsp; So of course, the washing machine is the next best thing, right? Wrong.&nbsp; After loading the machine with the turkey, ice and brine solution, our cook forgot the bird was in there. Later the caller’s roommate put in a load of laundry, with detergent and bleach, on top of the turkey. Brining should always be done in the refrigerator in a food-grade plastic container.
3.&nbsp; What’s that Fowl Smell?
It’s true that cold water can be used to defrost frozen poultry, but one should really consider where that water comes from.&nbsp; One Thanksgiving host had a large frozen turkey and a small amount of time, so he put the turkey in the toilet and continuously flushed to allow water to run all over it. Needless to say, there could have been all kinds of bacteria on this turkey and it had to be condemned. There are three safe ways to thaw a turkey, none of which involves a toilet.

Top Thanksgiving Turkey Fails

Happy Movember! Don’t get me wrong—here at Dickey’s HQ, we’re definitely excited about Thanksgiving, but this is important too. The Movember campaign raises awareness of men’s health issues (particularly prostate cancer and testicular cancer). Ladies have pink—us - men have something a bit more permanent and…natural. That’s right, a mustache/beard. Hopefully you’re noticing more men fashioning a stash recently; raising awareness and “changing the face of men’s health.” So next time you see someone with one, please say “Happy Movember”, or even a “Good beard to you, sir”. In honor of No Shave November/Movember and supporting the cause to raise awareness of men’s health issues, I bring you the origins of this fantastic holiday along with a few “mo foods”.
The month of November in recent years has been aligned with charities that use facial hair to raise awareness for men's health.&nbsp;<a href="https://us.movember.com/about" target="_blank">Movember started in Australia</a>&nbsp;in 2003 and has grown into a global effort. To participate, men grow mustaches to spark conversation and raise money for men's health programs involving prostate cancer, testicular cancer and mental health problems.
<a href="https://www.no-shave.org/#!our-story/cfvg" target="_blank">No-Shave November</a>, started in 2009, encourages participants to grow hair — whether it's a beard, or a mustache — and donate the money participants would normally spend on grooming for the month to the American Cancer Society.

Make Halloween Wicked Easy

Worshipping a bottle of barbecue sauce is one thing. &nbsp;But, smearing barbecue sauce on a guy's face when he hits a game-winner? &nbsp;Well, that takes tradition in to new territory. &nbsp;And, it gives new meaning to getting sauced. It also sets the precedent for taking post-game celebrations to a stickier, saucier new level.
According to tradition, the Royals have won the American League pennant, and the Giants have claimed the National League pennant. As the ancient laws of combat mandate, these two teams will meet in the 2014 World Series. The Royals will be trying to hoist the trophy for the first time since 1985, and believe it or not, they’re looking to barbecue sauce to get them there.
Leave it to Kansas City of all places to introduce baseball to barbecue saucing. Yes, it's what you're thinking: The Royals have started hitting guys in the face with barbecue sauce. It happened Wednesday to Eric Hosmer, who hit a game-winning single against the Detroit Tigers and then got sauced afterward.
The rally sauce story goes like this: Pitcher Jeremy Guthrie saw the sauce when it was delivered to the Royals clubhouse and told his teammates they needed to "hit it a ton" too. Since then, the Royals have been seen stroking the barbecue sauce for good luck. Guthrie even tweeted a picture of himself "sleeping" with it.
Opening the door to condiments as a celebration tool could get messy fast, but in Kansas City, the Royals have really gotten behind their "rally sauce." Designated hitter Billy Butler's new Hit-It-A-Ton barbecue sauce is helping raise funds for needy families in the Kansas City area.
After losing 11 straight games in May and on the brink of total collapse, the Royals recently anointed Butler's sauce their good luck charm. They have won seven of their last eight games, including a streak of six in a row that ended Tuesday. George Brett, the Royals new hitting coach, has got to feel great that the team is rallying around barbecue sauce and not one of the best hitters that ever played the game. (Or maybe he's wondering how much sauce you can legally put on a bat).
The two positives on this new saucy trend: The Royals going through cases of barbecue sauce means more money for Butler's charity and it elevates our love of barbecue sauce to a national audience. But, let's just hope the Mariners don't start pouring coffee on people. That’s taking it too far.

2014 World Series: Giants vs. Royals and their ‘Rally Sauce’

Bacon. &nbsp;Besides barbecue, it’s one of the main reasons you’re not a vegetarian. It makes everything better, and either you like bacon or you’re wrong. Okay, okay… that may be a tad judgmental. But, for some, bacon is truly to be celebrated.
The salty, sizzlin’, tasty slices of pork belly take center stage (quite literally) this weekend, starting on 10/18/14 at Pederson’s Natural Farms fourth Annual Bacon Bash Texas in Cranfills Gap. Yup, I said Cranfills Gap. No idea where that is? That’s okay… most folks don’t. Cranfills Gap is a tiny little Texas town with a population of 281. Yeah, 281. And, Dickey’s is proud to be a sponsor.
What exactly is this Bacon Bash Texas? Well, at a very basic level, it is a bacon cook-off. This year, 14 teams compete for the 1st place finish. Here’s how it works. Teams are given ten pounds of Pederson’s Natural Farms Uncured Bacon. With that bacon, they must create anything their heart desires. The catch? They must supply all other necessary ingredients and cook all samples on site. From bacon jam to bacon wrapped sun dried figs to bacon stuffed funnel cakes to bacon wrapped loin with roasted carrot and coconut curry bisque, this really is a smorgasbord of all things bacon! Bacon vodka, bacon popcorn, bacon rimmed margaritas… it’s a bacon-y good time! (I wonder how many times I can say bacon in one paragraph?!?)
With live bands providing hours of boot scootin’ music, free flowin’ beer, and an abundance of oversized straw hats, it really is a unique experience and an excuse to have a good ol’ time! &nbsp;And the topper is all proceeds go to Niki Covers The Cold, a charity that collects and then hands out to folks in need. &nbsp;
