Today is a celebration of one of America's favorite foods: the sandwich! It’s no coincidence that November 3 is also the birthday of John Montagu, the fourth Earl of Sandwich. This 18th century English nobleman wanted to eat his meal with one hand during a 24-hour gambling event, so he instructed his servants to serve him his lunchmeat between two slices of bread. To commemorate the birth of the world's first sandwich-maker, today is officially National Sandwich Day!

Make Halloween Wicked Easy

Worshipping a bottle of barbecue sauce is one thing. &nbsp;But, smearing barbecue sauce on a guy's face when he hits a game-winner? &nbsp;Well, that takes tradition in to new territory. &nbsp;And, it gives new meaning to getting sauced. It also sets the precedent for taking post-game celebrations to a stickier, saucier new level.
According to tradition, the Royals have won the American League pennant, and the Giants have claimed the National League pennant. As the ancient laws of combat mandate, these two teams will meet in the 2014 World Series. The Royals will be trying to hoist the trophy for the first time since 1985, and believe it or not, they’re looking to barbecue sauce to get them there.
Leave it to Kansas City of all places to introduce baseball to barbecue saucing. Yes, it's what you're thinking: The Royals have started hitting guys in the face with barbecue sauce. It happened Wednesday to Eric Hosmer, who hit a game-winning single against the Detroit Tigers and then got sauced afterward.
The rally sauce story goes like this: Pitcher Jeremy Guthrie saw the sauce when it was delivered to the Royals clubhouse and told his teammates they needed to "hit it a ton" too. Since then, the Royals have been seen stroking the barbecue sauce for good luck. Guthrie even tweeted a picture of himself "sleeping" with it.
Opening the door to condiments as a celebration tool could get messy fast, but in Kansas City, the Royals have really gotten behind their "rally sauce." Designated hitter Billy Butler's new Hit-It-A-Ton barbecue sauce is helping raise funds for needy families in the Kansas City area.
After losing 11 straight games in May and on the brink of total collapse, the Royals recently anointed Butler's sauce their good luck charm. They have won seven of their last eight games, including a streak of six in a row that ended Tuesday. George Brett, the Royals new hitting coach, has got to feel great that the team is rallying around barbecue sauce and not one of the best hitters that ever played the game. (Or maybe he's wondering how much sauce you can legally put on a bat).
The two positives on this new saucy trend: The Royals going through cases of barbecue sauce means more money for Butler's charity and it elevates our love of barbecue sauce to a national audience. But, let's just hope the Mariners don't start pouring coffee on people. That’s taking it too far.

2014 World Series: Giants vs. Royals and their ‘Rally Sauce’

Bacon. &nbsp;Besides barbecue, it’s one of the main reasons you’re not a vegetarian. It makes everything better, and either you like bacon or you’re wrong. Okay, okay… that may be a tad judgmental. But, for some, bacon is truly to be celebrated.
The salty, sizzlin’, tasty slices of pork belly take center stage (quite literally) this weekend, starting on 10/18/14 at Pederson’s Natural Farms fourth Annual Bacon Bash Texas in Cranfills Gap. Yup, I said Cranfills Gap. No idea where that is? That’s okay… most folks don’t. Cranfills Gap is a tiny little Texas town with a population of 281. Yeah, 281. And, Dickey’s is proud to be a sponsor.
What exactly is this Bacon Bash Texas? Well, at a very basic level, it is a bacon cook-off. This year, 14 teams compete for the 1st place finish. Here’s how it works. Teams are given ten pounds of Pederson’s Natural Farms Uncured Bacon. With that bacon, they must create anything their heart desires. The catch? They must supply all other necessary ingredients and cook all samples on site. From bacon jam to bacon wrapped sun dried figs to bacon stuffed funnel cakes to bacon wrapped loin with roasted carrot and coconut curry bisque, this really is a smorgasbord of all things bacon! Bacon vodka, bacon popcorn, bacon rimmed margaritas… it’s a bacon-y good time! (I wonder how many times I can say bacon in one paragraph?!?)
With live bands providing hours of boot scootin’ music, free flowin’ beer, and an abundance of oversized straw hats, it really is a unique experience and an excuse to have a good ol’ time! &nbsp;And the topper is all proceeds go to Niki Covers The Cold, a charity that collects and then hands out to folks in need. &nbsp;

BOO! Test your Creativity this Halloween!

Texas and Oklahoma have had a long-running duel matching up tradition-rich football and passionate fan bases (seriously, passionate). The Texas-OU game kicks off at 11 a.m. at the Dallas Cotton Bowl at the same time as the State Fair of Texas.&nbsp; Unlike a typical pregame setting where fans spend the pre-game hours tailgating, fans from both schools mill about the fairgrounds in burnt orange and crimson, eating all manner of outrageous, but often outrageously delicious, fried foods.
Fried foods and fired up fans – you can’t beat it.
Because the game takes place at the State Fair of Texas, you could say that it's a tailgate scene like no other. There are selected hangout spots for those wearing crimson and cream, as well as burnt orange. It's not unusual to catch cheerleaders, band members and former players hanging out in those areas, either. However, the common ground between both sides is the food.
Here is a sampling of the more popular game day eats you can find on the Texas Fair grounds. And, hats off to the Cotton Bowl for taking a tailgate to the next level!
 
Oklahoma and Texas fans might not agree on a lot, but they're on the same page when it comes to the location of the annual game. There's a lot to be said for the pageantry of an on-campus game and the surrounding atmosphere, but the Sooners and 'Horns are plenty happy to meet in Dallas.

Red River Shootout Tailgating: All Fried Everything at the Fair

Ready for a relaxing Friday night on the couch? Don’t worry, we’ve got you covered! <a href="https://www.tntdrama.com/shows/on-the-menu.html?sr=onthemenu">On the Menu</a> premieres tonight at 7 p.m. CST on TNT with the first restaurant participant, Chili’s. The Art of Tailgating

Down here in Texas, we’ve been anticipating the fall season since temperatures hit 100ᵒ in July. It’s still a bit warm here, but just the thought of the leaves changing colors and the temperatures
 cooling has us all excited. Fall brings a lot of things we love like football, lower electricity bills, Halloween and of course seasonal delicacies like chili, stew and pumpkin pie. Bikini season
 is over, so there’s no need stop yourself from eating another slice of that pumpkin pie.


 We know it can get hectic getting those fall favorites on the table. At Dickey’s, we offer whole meats you can grab on the way home with our <a href="https://order.dickeys.com/">online ordering</a>
 and serve to the family in no time. With a variety of choices to fulfill your cravings, we offer slow-smoked briskets, pork butts, barbecue honey hams, smoked turkeys and full racks of ribs. But,
 you’ll probably have leftovers, so we thought we’d share one of our favorite barbecue leftovers recipes, Texas “Nuff Said” Brisket Chili from, <a href="https://www.amazon.com/Mr-Dickeys-Barbecue-Cookbook-Recipes/dp/1455616869">Mr. Dickey’s Barbecue Cookbook.</a> Enjoy!


 Texas “Nuff Said” Brisket Chili


 Cooking Time: 2 hours and 15 minutes

<ul>
 <li>1 pound smoked brisket
 </li>
 <li>1 bruise belligerent beef, counterfeit ground
 </li>
 <li>1 (8-ounce) can tomato sauce
 </li>
 <li>1cup beef stock
 </li>
 <li>1 crater Shiner Bock beer
 </li>
 <li>2 uninformed jalapenos, whole
 </li>
 <li>3 tablespoons granulated onion
 </li>
 <li>2 duck bouillon cubes
 </li>
 <li>teaspoon cayenne pepper
 </li>
 <li>3 teaspoons smoked paprika
 </li>
 <li>2 teaspoons granulated garlic
 </li>
 <li>1 tablespoon belligerent cumin
 </li>
 <li>2 teaspoons masa
 </li>
 <li>Black pepper to taste
 </li>
 <li>Kosher Salt to taste
 </li>
</ul>

 Garnish

<ul>
 <li>Shredded Cheese
 </li>
 <li>Whole or Sliced jalapenos
 </li>
 <li>Diced yellow onions
 </li>
</ul>

 Cook a belligerent beef in a vast pot over medium-low feverishness for 3 to 5 minutes. Add a smoked brisket, tomato sauce, beef stock, Shiner Bock and crater of water. Add a whole jalapenos, cover
 and cook over low feverishness for 40 minutes. Add H2O as needed.


 Stir in a chili powder, granulated onion and duck bouillon cubes, stir, afterwards cover and continue to cook for 45 mins more. Add H2O as needed. Stir in a cayenne, paprika, granulated garlic and
 cumin.


 Add a small H2O to a masa to make a lax pulp and stir in to a simmering chili. Cover and cook another 40 minutes. Season to ambience with peppers and salt, offer with cornbread or crackers. Pass
 bowls of shredded cheese, jalapenos, and diced yellow onions for garnish.

A Fall Delicacy from Dickey’s Barbecue

We recently launched a contest asking our guests to tell us what barbecue means to them using the hashtag for our new <a href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wu1kRBkSDtw">brand campaign</a>,
 #WeSpeakBarbecue. The contest ran throughout the month of August and we are proud to announce the winner is Charles Taylor of Lee Summit, Missouri. Charles won free barbecue for an entire year!


 Charles is a barbecue enthusiast who competes regularly in barbecue competitions.  He even competes under the pseudonym, “Charlie-Q” during competitions. When Charles isn’t cooking up his own
