Prices are rising even faster this summer, as we approach the highest rate in four decades straining household budgets. Pricing concerns stem from inflated rates in grocery stores and restaurants but have even surprised most with the highest fuel prices breaking record from 2008. Businesses all over have experienced changes in consumer behavior, especially in the restaurant industry.

Labor shortage is being experienced everywhere; however, California is feeling the strain more than most. With over 550 locations, we have a labor shortage between 10-12% in the labor force across the company. CEO, Laura Rea Dickey combats the shortage by sharing job posts with people directly to try to reach out and hire individuals. The company has always paid above average minimum wage; however, there have been additional adjustments to add stronger benefits such as better health care options. Health care benefits have been extended to hourly employees instead of just on the management level; however, there is still the shortage percentage in the double digits. Now, this has been a common occurrence in many industries, especially experienced due to the pandemic. A major cause for this, according to Dickey’s Barbecue Restaurant CEO, has been healthcare or lack thereof. The struggle of the labor shortage has been felt exponentially; however, that has not stopped the barbecue chain from serving up delicious BBQ to its loyal customers.
