The much anticipated opening of Fuel Maxx in Fairfield has finally come!
Fuel Maxx, located on the southwest corner of Highway 84 and Interstate 45, boasts Chevron Gasoline available 24/7, with Checkers, Dickey’s Barbeque Pit, and Taco Corner restaurants ready to serve the hungry local or traveler. Checkers is also available via drive-through for those on the go.
 
Customers will also find the Wine Rack, filled with a large variety of wines; the Beer Vault, loaded with ice cold beer ready for your party; a coffee bar with a wide variety of flavors to choose from; fountain drinks; a selection of Icee drinks; milkshakes; smoothies; the Ice Creamery cooler with multiple ice cream options, novelty gifts, and clean restrooms.
 
The store celebrated their opening and new platinum membership to the Fairfield Chamber of Commerce with a ribbon cutting ceremony on Friday, October 5, 2018.
 
Buzz Russell of KNES Fairfield was on hand most of the day doing a live remote; and various vendors lined the front sidewalk offering samples of their goods available for purchase inside the store.

Grand Traverse Plaza will welcome a famed barbecue restaurant to the shopping center near Brownwood.
 
Dickey’s Barbecue Pit is expected to make its Villages debut early next year.
 
In 1941, Travis Dickey, a World War II veteran, opened the first Dickey’s Barbecue Pit in Dallas. Dickey was a true Texas character, blessed with the gift of gab and the love of authentic, slow-smoked barbecue
 
Dickey’s Barbecue Pit still slow smokes all meats on-site just the same way they did in 1941. The menu features beef brisket, pulled pork, St. Louis style ribs, polish sausage, spicy cheddar sausage, smoked turkey, and marinated chicken, with an extensive array of homestyle sides from jalapeño beans to macaroni and cheese. Buttery rolls are served with every meal, along with complementary ice cream. Children eat free on Sundays.
 
Roland Dickey Jr. became chief executive officer in 2006, continuing the family tradition.&nbsp;
 
Dickey’s now has 600 locations in 43 states.&nbsp;

I first started buying from Dickey’s Barbecue Pit a few years ago, not because of the taste, but because I could buy complete Thanksgiving ham dinners at holiday time. I would donate the purchases from Dickey’s to Soroptimist or the Exchange Club of Tacoma. Since then I’ve bought pre-cooked items for a Rotary meeting at my home, and a deck party. For most people BBQ means ribs and the ribs from Dickey’s are “fall off the bone” good. They don’t have a lot of sauce on them, but Dickey’s offers three types of sauce in their restaurants. They differ in spiceyness. You can add as much sauce as you like to any of the BBQ selections. The ribs are my wife Peg’s first choice. She can buy a rib plate and have enough left-overs for breakfast.
We recently had lunch at the Sixth Avenue Dickey’s with our son Del and his wife Johanna. They both, along with their kids, love Dickey’s. I broke out of my mold and ordered something completely different: a baked potato. The baked potato is huge. Once cut open the server put two ice cream scoops of butter into the middle of the spud, followed by three scoops of sour cream, a sprinkling of cheddar cheese, bacon, and then topped it with the meat of your choice. You can ask for more butter, more sour cream, more cheese, more bacon . . . it goes on and on. For me the final topping meant chopped up Brisket . . . and a helping of onion “tangles.” I could not eat the entire potato. I did eat all of the Brisket, however...
They say the best BBQ brisket comes from Texas. Dickey’s Barbecue Pit is a family-owned American barbecue restaurant chain based in Dallas, Texas. Locally, they have restaurants in Tacoma and Puyallup. The meat is good, the prices reasonable, and the servers are friendly. Y’all come!
