The new location will be opened by barbecue fanatic and Dickey’s Barbecue Pit franchisee, Brandon Gerrick. “We want to congratulate Brandon Gerrick on joining the Dickey’s Barbecue Pit family,” says Laura Rea Dickey, CEO of Dickey’s Barbecue Restaurants, Inc. “With experienced, passionate franchisees such as Brandon, the Dickey’s brand will continue to grow and be successful.” Originally from Chicago, Gerrick recently moved to Colorado and immediately noticed a void of delicious, Texas-style barbecue in Boulder. The locations will be opened by Dickey’s franchisee Nasruddin Momin. “The Dickey’s family looks forward to the opening of Momin’s new locations and are thrilled to have him as a part of the Dickey’s Barbecue Pit family,” says Laura Rea Dickey, CEO of Dickey’s Barbecue Restaurants, Inc. “Momin is passionate about the art of great barbecue and that is what makes the Dickey’s brand continue to grow and be successful.” Though Momin is new to the Dickey’s team, the restaurant industry is something that he is very familiar with as his family has owned a deli for the past 15 years. Never heard of it? Good reason. It started last year. So maybe you didn't pig out because you didn't know you could. The second porkfest is Thursday, and Dickey's Barbecue Pit is celebrating with $2 pulled pork sandwiches all day. There is a Dickey's in Abilene, located at the corner of Hog and Wild. OK, at the corner of South 14th and South Clack streets. Sandwiches will be served 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. Dickey's invites customer to watch staff "grab, squish and tickle" the pulled pork before they eat. Maybe. Maybe not. $2 sandwiches Thursday. That's eatin' cheap.

We needed something fast and delicious and a quick Yelp search led us to Dickey’s Barbecue Pit. And we’re so happy it did because it was really yummy! We thought it was the perfect spot to take the little ones so I couldn’t wait to share our experience. We were greeted with a warm welcome and the first thing I saw was the “Deal of Day” board. I made a mental note of the KIDS EAT FREE Sundays – what a deal! The menu is pretty large and featured BBQ favorites like brisket, pulled pork, kielbasa, turkey, and ribs. The choices ranged from a basic meat plate, to tacos, sliders, sandwiches, and even “smoke stacks” – Frito pie, bangers &amp; mash, or brisket-topped mac &amp; cheese. They also had a variety of kids meals to choose from for $4.50. Since it was our first time, we wanted to try as many things as we could and settled on splitting a 3-meat plate. Our little one picked a kid’s plate and we made sure to get a good variety to sample. We selected: pulled pork, beef brisket, and jalepeno-cheddar kielbasa. The plate came with two sides, and we chose their mac &amp; cheese and potato salad. The little one selected turkey with a side of green beans. Both meals came with buttery rolls and PICKLES! IT WAS A TON OF FOOD! (How does one person eat the 3-meat plate!? We couldn’t even finish it and we split it!) Seriously! Look at how much food we got for less than $20… I loved that they served their bbq sauce warm. There were three choices – original, sweet and spicy. I got a bit of each to try and I really loved the spicy barbecue sauce! It definitely had a kick. Also – they have FREE ice-cream! Can you believe it? Soft-serve style and you can help yourself. I’m not usually a huge fan of soft serve, but this one was really good. It tasted like frozen custard! Between the free ice-cream and the free kids meals on Sundays – Dickey’s is definitely a fun and affordable choice for families. &nbsp;

Barbecue Masters for Disaster, in partnership with the American Red Cross, set up shop in Houston early September, serving over 5,000 meals a day to Hurricane Harvey victims in the area. "We found people that haven't eaten for three days, and we gave them a hot meal... it's not race, it's not a color, it's not a creed it's nothing, it's not a religious thing... it's about people working together... we're all human beings, and we have to reach out the help each other," said Gene Martin of BBQ Masters for Disasters. The congresswoman put on her gloves and apron, jumping at the chance to serve meals alongside volunteers. "I come up here everyday, because I don't have the money to survive to eat everyday, so I come up here to get meals. it's like God sent angels up here from all around the world," said Michael Baines. I guess it is true what they say-- the best way to the heart is through the stomach. And we see no exceptions when it comes to BBQ!

What better way to celebrate special family moments than to sip, smile and enjoy a fun night out! We love any excuse to celebrate and our oldest daughter Ashling gave us a great one recently. Her scores had come back from the 3rd grade standardized tests she took at the end of last year. We knew she’d do well because she always excels in school but we were floored when she showed us the results. She’d gotten a perfect score in both reading AND math! Her teacher was wowed and so were we. She even received a letter from the governor of Florida! It may have been a form letter but it’s still a lot more than I ever got as a kid. We knew she’d do well because she always excels in school but we were floored when she showed us the results. She’d gotten a perfect score in both reading AND math! Her teacher was wowed and so were we. She even received a letter from the governor of Florida! It may have been a form letter but it’s still a lot more than I ever got as a kid. Keira wanted to celebrate special family moments by eating daddy's food. If you’ve never had bbq and Gold Peak tea at Dickey’s, you definitely need to check it out. I hadn’t eaten bbq for awhile and had no idea what&nbsp; I was missing. The meat was so tender and delicious that it barely needed sauce (though I did end up dousing it in sauce too…they knew what they were doing when they made that sweet sauce!). You’ll want to get the biggest cup you can so you can fill it to the top with Gold Peak tea! It goes perfectly with the bbq and if you don’t drink it all, you can bring it home for later!It was a great place to have our celebration and we left full and happy!

"We are thrilled to have Ron and Tricia Burkett join the Dickey's Barbecue Pit family," said Laura Rea Dickey, CEO of Dickey's Barbecue Pit. "With franchisees like the Burketts, who are passionate about the art of great barbecue, the Dickey's brand will continue to be successful and grow." Burkett said the desire to live closer to his job and the love of Dickey’s drove him to open his own restaurant in the chain, making the Lebanon location one of 600 nationwide Dickey’s locations and the fifth in Tennessee.“One thing I love about Dickey’s is the consistency,” said Burkett, who said the chain still uses many of the same recipes and routines as the original Dickey’s Restaurant, started in 1941 by Travis Dickey in Dallas. Burkett and his wife moved to Lebanon five years ago and noticed the state’s fascination and addiction to pulled pork left a void for Texas-style brisket, which he said is the signature barbecue dish in the state. When he made the decision to open a location in Lebanon, the company sent him to Dallas for its Barbecue University, a month-long training program that teaches potential franchise owners how to run the store and cook the meats. Burkett and his staff held a family and friends night Wednesday to prepare the staff for Thursday’s opening. He said family of Dickey’s staff attended, along with emergency service personnel in the area. In the next four weeks, Dickey's will offer Thirsty Thursdays where guests will receive a free big yellow cup with free refills all day; Philanthropy Fridays where guests who donate to Dickey's charitable foundation, Barbecue, Boots and Badges, will receive a gift card as thanks for their donation, and all uniformed first responders also receive 50 percent off their meal; Giveaway Saturdays where guests can register for a chance to win free barbecue for a year; and Kids Eat Free Sundays where children eat free with an adult purchase of $10 or more. In 2016, Dickey's was first on Fast Casual's "Top 100 Movers and Shakers" list and in 2017 again won a top 10 on the list.
