Grand Traverse Plaza has welcomed a famed barbecue restaurant to the shopping center near Brownwood.
Dickey’s Barbecue Pit has opened just a few doors down from Flipper’s Pizzeria at the shopping plaza located within Wildwood on State Road 44.
The menu features beef brisket, pulled pork, St. Louis style ribs, polish sausage, spicy cheddar sausage, smoked turkey and marinated chicken, with an extensive array of homestyle sides from jalapeño beans to macaroni and cheese. Buttery rolls are served with every meal, along with complementary ice cream. Children eat free on Sundays.
In 1941, Travis Dickey, a World War II veteran, opened the first Dickey’s Barbecue Pit in Dallas. Dickey was a true Texas character, blessed with the gift of gab and the love of authentic, slow-smoked barbecue.
Brothers Roland and T.D. Dickey took over the business in 1967, continuing their father’s legacy of quality, hickory-smoked signature meats.
Today there are more than 500 Dickey’s locations in 44 states.

Dickey's Barbecue Restaurants is doling out more rewards to customers using its app and enrolling in its enhanced loyalty program called Big Yellow Cup Club Rewards
The program is point based and allows guests to earn free barbecue and also share dining experiences, according to a press release.
"The Dickey's App and our loyalty program were developed in-house to offer rewards fit for barbecue lovers across the nation,” said Laura Rea Dickey, CEO, in the release. "It is designed to reward our guests for making purchases at Dickey's locations nationwide, sharing their experiences with us and ultimately providing information to best serve them moving forward."
Guests can download the app through the Apple App Store or Google Play and create a Big Yellow Cup Club Rewards account by signing in through email, Facebook, Twitter or Google. Guests can also access the rewards program via the concept's website, according to the release.
Guests earn a point for every dollar spent and can earn extra points by completing a survey through the Dickey's app regarding their experience.

Nestled in the heart of Hardin Valley is Dickey’s Barbecue Pit at 10853 Hardin Valley Road. The restaurant opened last August and is locally owned by Barbara and Don Hall with their son, Donny, as general manager.
The Halls come from a medical background. Don is an ultrasound technician and Barbara is a registered nurse.
&nbsp;“We looked for some kind of franchise for 10 years before we settled on Dickey’s Barbecue Pit," said Barbara Hall.
“I was in restaurant management for 15 years before I became a nurse, so this is second nature to me. Our only concern was where to put the restaurant. We didn’t want to be in an industrial or downtown area. We wanted to be in a neighborhood. Hardin Valley is perfect for us. It’s a place where we can grow with the community. We love it here.

Dickeys was started by Roland Dickey in Dallas in 1941 as a family-owned BBQ joint.
“Dickey’s is the new No. 1 franchise in the world. They’re even opening up one in Abu Dhabi which offers lamb," Barbara said.
The pulled pork shoulder sandwich is the Happy Hour sandwich at Dickey’s Barbecue Pit. The sandwich is $3 from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Saturday.
Keto diet choice: Jalapeno cheddar sausage &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;
Pulled pork shoulder sandwiches are the restaurant’s claim to fame. Smoked beef brisket, chicken, turkey, and kielbasa sausage are also available. Jalapeno cheddar sausage is wildly popular with Keto dieters. "It’s very low carb. You can get any of our meats on a bun or without."
The meats are smoked fresh daily. "There’s something for everyone."
The sandwiches and plates come plain with two sides, but customers can jazz it up with Dickey’s secret sauce, which comes in original or sweet and spicy. The sauce is available to take home for $4.95 a bottle.

“The pulled pork sandwich is our Happy Hour special. From 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Saturday, the sandwich is only $3.

Needing a Fresh Start for Technology
To survive and thrive in the competitive restaurant industry, the Dickey’s leadership team knew they needed both better data and better ways to use data to understand customer wants and needs. The company didn’t feel it was managing its data optimally through its on-premises environment. It also felt it wouldn’t be able to scale to respond to growth opportunities. Dickey’s saw a massive opportunity in starting over and building a technology and data roadmap that began with building a cloud-based business intelligence (BI) platform. For Dickey’s, analytics-first became the company mantra. &nbsp;
Re-Inventing Dickey’s Through Data
Dickey’s chose to work closely with iOLAP from the beginning to build and execute a cloud-based data and architecture strategy. For its new environment, the company chose to build on Amazon Web Services (AWS). The breadth of AWS services available, security posture, scalability, and ability to align spend to anticipated consumption made AWS the obvious choice for Dickey’s. The company began by building a data warehouse on Amazon Redshift. Dickey’s uploads data regularly to Amazon Simple Storage Service (Amazon S3), processes the data through Amazon Redshift, and uses AWS Lambda to provide real-time analytics for its sales data, labor data, and a growing number of sources. On AWS, new data source integrations take days instead of weeks to implement. Today, Dickey’s is using Yellowfin’s BI platform running on Amazon Elastic Compute Cloud (Amazon EC2). &nbsp;
Analytics is Just the Beginning
Using AWS, Dickey’s can grow and scale on-demand at a fraction of the cost of its on-premises environment. The company’s three-year total cost of ownership (TCO) is 54 percent cheaper than a comparable on-premises solution. Working with iOLAP and using AWS, Dickey’s has built a vendor-agnostic framework allowing for customization and the flexibility to build its own proprietary tooling. The company has now digitized everything it does through its CRM running on AWS, which the company believes is contributing to the growth of its catering business line. With the successful launch of the platform on AWS, Dickey’s and iOLAP have begun to tackle new innovations and projects. A key focus for the team is the implementation of a voice-enabled Amazon Alexa system which will fundamentally change the way customers and internal teams interact with the restaurant.

Hodgetown, Amarillo’s home to the Double-A baseball affiliate Sod Poodles, boasts a myriad of treats to eat while you partake in the game, with players either home or away.
“The ballpark is full of food and hospitality,” said Tony Ensor, Amarillo Sod Poodles president and general manager. “When you go to a ball game, half the fun is obviously seeing the game on the field, but it’s also all the great food that you can get in the ballpark. We have everything from a three pound hamburger, to mountain nachos, nachos in helmet, fried Twinkies, every brat, hot dog or sausage you can think of; we have so many menu items, it’s unbelievable.”
Ensor said a complete list of all the edible items Hodgetown offers, including some salads for the health conscious, is eight pages long.
Several standalone beer carts line the concourse, where there are more than six eateries, including local favorite Dickey’s Barbecue Pit and national chain Chick-Fil-A; and it wouldn’t be Texas without tea, like at HTeaO, a subsidiary of Texas Tea.
“We have a great partnership with Dickey’s, HTeaO and Chick-Fil-A,” Ensor said. “We’ve got all kinds of local flavors, and that’s something the community has come to expect -- they want to get their local things too and also try some of the crazy, zany, things we have in the ballpark.”
“Being at the ballpark is a great experience,” said Cowboy Mock of HTeaO. “It compliments our vibe. We’re all about people -- we’re kind of an outdoorsy, healthy kind of club, and we hope we can give somebody an alternative to drinking beer all day.”
Tyson Leyba, general manager of the franchised Dickey’s Barbecue, said being at the ballpark is a great opportunity.
“We have some staples here -- the Frito pie, the mac stack (and) the chopped brisket sandwich, ” he said. “We’ve also done something a little different with our sausage on a stick and sausage wraps. It’s unique just for the ballpark experience.”
The mac stack from Dickey’s caught the attention of patron Casey Lish.
“It’s Texas; when they’ve got ballpark food like the mac stack, you’ve got to check it out,” he said. “It tastes great! I’ve never even thought about this (recipe), but I’m going to go home and make that for my family because it was awesome!”
Steve Abrahamson couldn’t resist the Super Soddies Nacho Helmet.
“I’m eating nachos in a hat,” he said. “I looked around and saw all the other people eating it, and it looked good, plus I wanted the hat.”
Abrahamson said the dish didn’t disappoint.
“It was all very good,” he said. “I’ve not had nachos that were much better. The only thing is, it could’ve had a little more meat, but otherwise, it was awesome.”
Still to come, Bar 352, just off of left field, will debut Monday evening.
“Whether you’re a hardcore baseball fan or not,” Ensor said, “you’re a fan of coming out, having great food, with an ice cold beer or cold sodas -- literally the best food that you can find anywhere in the area in an affordable venue.”

Dallas-based Dickey’s Barbecue Pit has promoted Jay Rooney to the position of Chief Financial Officer, a new role at the company.
Rooney served as the vice president of finance and accounting for two years. He started last week.
Before coming to Dickey’s, Rooney worked for nearly 20 years in various financial roles at Brinker International Inc., the Dallas-based parent company of Chili’s Grill &amp; Bar and Maggiano’s Little Italy.
“I’m thrilled to be tasked with leading the finance and accounting side of the world’s biggest and best barbecue restaurant brand,” Rooney said in a statement. “I am especially excited about the future of Dickey’s as we grow the brand through direct delivery, new international markets, expanded retail offerings, and other new revenue streams.”
The fast-casual chain has about 500 locations in 44 states.

Dickey’s Barbecue Pit, the largest barbecue franchise in the world, announced the promotion of Jay Rooney to Chief Financial Officer of Dickey’s Barbecue Pit and its affiliate brands. For the past two years, Jay has served as Vice President of Finance and Accounting until making the move to CFO.
“As a family-owned business, we are always proud to have one of our family members be promoted to the executive level,” says Roland Dickey, Jr., CEO of Dickey’s Capital Group. “In Jay’s time at Dickey’s, he has been passionate about the brand and I look forward to his continued success.”
Prior to joining Dickey’s in 2017, Rooney spent almost 20 years in various financial leadership roles at Brinker International.
